The residences are
stone houses that have been restored and renovated according to the specifications
indicated for traditional homes. They have been remodelled to create separate
living spaces for 2-5 people.
The houses in
Volissos are two-storey, the ground floor used to be the stable and granary
and the upper floor was the family residence. They are usually named after
the family that owned the house before the purchase and renovation of
it. Sometimes the name refers to a particular characteristic of the house,
as in the case of the Kamara Residence, since it was the only one where
an arch (kamara in Greek) was preserved.
The renovations
were conducted by the companies 'Volissos
Travel' and Homerus
Travel' from 1989-1999. They intervened as little as possible,
showing respect for the local architecture.
Elements that
represented the previous usage of the space were retained such as the
use of tree trunks for the floor supports and the incorporation of natural
rock in the foundation, etc.
The houses have
been divided either horizontally (one apartment above and one below) or
vertically (each apartment has two floors). They all have fully outfitted
kitchens and bathrooms and can be rented by night or by fixed time periods.
